I told them. I told them clearly. If you turn it on, you'll lose a lot more catalyst than you think. But did they listen to me?! Nooo, they just HAD to power up the Tokamak reactor and do a test run. And now they're out of the catalysts. And so now I have to suffer a trip from Livermore Natl. Laboratory to Palmdale to deliver more catalysts. About 0.0000002 grams of antihydrogen, to be precise. Worth a couple hundred thousand grand...not that there's a market for it, it's just the production cost. But there's still more than enough of it to blow the plane out of the sky should the magnetic containment field fail.
Yes, yes, I know that I have to be careful when hauling antihydrogen. But I wasn't the one who assembled the containment box, so I can't vouch for it's integrity.
But what bugs me big time about this is that I told them not to waste the catalysts, but they did anyways. "We're not in the same directorate! You're not our supervisor, and besides, you don't know what you're talking about anyways!" they said. And now I have to haul more of it to them. I wonder what they'll be saying to the Administrator once he finds out about this.
266 miles on IFR by the VORs, hopefully a visual down to Palmdale. $20 a mile for the hazardous materials surcharge and in my very own C172, N5566W, totaling $5320. Chance of the plane blowing up...small, but it's there. Argument rating: Strong. Roll: 3, pass. Off to fly it.
Oh, the things I do in the name of science...
