Hey there. Look at you with that brand new LeatherHombre strapped to your belt. You know that just means I can work you harder, don’t you? Don't look at me like that! Now, here’s your first job as a Commercial Pilot. There’s a gaggle of scientists waiting outside who want to get a look at Lick Observatory from the air. So take them up and give them a good look-see, going around it a few times. Then take them over to Palo Alto where they've got a lecture to give at the university there. No, I don't know what it's about, why don't you ask them? Anyway, once you're there, give me a call for your next assignment.

MISSION#: BCPL02 DEPART: Palo Alto (KPAO) ARRIVE: San Jose Int. (KSJC) TIME: Afternoon

Hey! You remembered to call. Will wonders never cease? Here’s what I need you to do: Hop up to Sacramento Executive where Louie has a crate of plane parts. Load them up and bring them back here to San Jose ASAP. Mac needs them over in Hangar 12….

What? What's wrong with Hangar 12? Grues? And here I thought you'd been around long enough to get over those silly tales the Senior Captains tell you…

Yeah, I know company business doesn’t pay as well, but that’s what I need you to do, so get going.

Note: This charter is company business and so only pays the $5/nm rate. No double payment is allowed, either.

MISSION#: BCPL03 DEPART: San Jose Int. (KSJC) ARRIVE: Sonoma County (KSTS) TIME: Evening

Hey! No time to refuel, repair, replane, or relax -- this is an emergency! The ambulance is on its way to your plane, and the fuel you have onboard will have to do. Get the patient to Santa Rosa as fast as you can -- the operating team is waiting. Check in with Al when you get there. Now hurry!

Hey, nice flight last night! Well done! The weather seems to have taken a turn for the better, anyway. Nice day for flying. Too bad I’m stuck in this office. Anyway, one of our pilots needs picking up at Travis Aero Club and taken back to San Jose. That’s Travis Aero Club, not the Air Force Base. I don’t know. Something about a broken doohickey. No. You go on without me. Yeah I’m sure.

Note: This charter is company business and so only pays the $5/nm rate. No double payment is allowed, either.

Well, do you want the good news or the bad news? The good news is it's not raining. The bad news is you’re doing taxi service. There's a reunion tomorrow of a Walking Club at Buchanan. There are three of them waiting outside to go to Buchanan now. After dropping them off, fly over to Byron and pick up whoever is waiting and take them to Buchanan. Then repeat that procedure for Marin, Angwin-Parrett, Petaluma, and Davis-Woodland. In that order. Got that? What's that? No, I don't know why they don't walk to their reunion, but they’re paying so you’re flying. You probably should spend the night at Buchanan, because I think Louie has something to go out of there in the morning.

Note: This is a complex, multiple drop flight. A full day’s flying all over the Bay Region. Some of the legs will be deadheading and will pay the $5/nm rate (no double payment). Others are at the standard $10/nm rate with double payment for personal plane use allowed. Just to clarify, the airport sequence is as follows:

Weather’s turning bad ain’t it? But too bad, Flyboy, you ain’t done for the day yet. Okay, let me get her on her cell phone and you can suggest that to her yourself… what's that? Yeah, I thought you might see it that way. Now you best hurry. The Boss hates to wait. Oh, and she also hates getting bumped around needlessly, so I recommend you fly around the bumps.

Well, I hope you have had a good rest. This may be good or bad news depending how much you like Santa Rosa this time of year. Do you? Really? Well, in any event, make sure you pack a bag because you’re going out there for a couple of days. Oakland Air Charter and Napa Air have been unable to provide adequate charter service to the wine growers and the ranchers, and so we have some work to do stealing these accounts. Hop down here to San Jose and pick up a bunch of supplies. Then get up to Santa Rosa and report to Al. The Boss is trying to divert other pilots over as well to take the work load. See you in a week or so.

Note: This charter is company business and so only pays the $5/nm rate. No double payment is allowed, either.

PROFILE:
Well here you are at last. Right, get your gear stowed over there. You’ll see I've made up some cots in case you get time to sleep. We're going first class here! Cap’n Dave promised me some more pilots soon. In the meantime, there’s a lot of work to do and only you to do it. I hope your dead reckoning is up to scratch, as there are a lot of small private strips out here. None of that fancy ILS, VOR or NDB stuff in these parts! All you need is a map, mark one eyeball and a little luck. Ok flyboy, first run here is to get those crates of empty bottles to Parret. And hey, keep in touch, because we've got a lot of work to do!

MISSION#: BCPL15 DEPART: Angwin-Parrett (2O3) ARRIVE: Blake Sky Park (CA57) TIME: Afternoon

When he does, fly him over to Graywood Ranch and collect Mr. Graywood. Then go to Allen Ranch and pick up Mr. Allen (Senior). Bring all three of them over to Santa Rosa. When you get in, top off your tanks and get ready for tomorrow. It'll be a busy one. What's that? No, you just think today has been busy.

Had a phone call from the Boss last night when you were asleep. What's that? No, I don't think she ever sleeps. Anyway, she is sending two more pilots over this morning so that will help with the workload. Right, when you're ready the new wine labels have arrived from the printers, so get them over to Inglenook and call me when you get them unloaded.

Hey there… you all right? You sound a little dazed. You should stay out of the sun and in your plane. Fortunately, I have just the job for you. Some of the grape pickers' car has broken down, they have managed to get to Mazza Field (58Q). So get over there as quick as you can, pick them up, and bring them back here. Those other pilots the Boss has sent should be arriving any time now. Oh, when you get here they can take them on to the ranch where they belong. We'll have some lunch ready when you get in.

We got an emergency here and you're the only pilot available at the moment. There has been a bad accident at Moskowite (41Q). Something to do with a crushing machine. Anyway, they’ve got the guy out, but he is in a bad way. Get over there, get him loaded as best you can, and get him back here. The vineyard owner's daughter is a nurse and she'll be coming along with him to help out. If you call from 30 miles out I will have the ambulance waiting when you get in. This weather is on the turn, so take care.

Hop down to Petaluma (O69) and pick up his sister. Then fly over to Gnoss Field (KDVO) and get his brother. Then jump over to Napa County (KAPC) and pick up his parents. Fly them all back her to Santa Rosa. We’ll have ground transport standing by to take them to the hospital. The Boss is sending another pilot over tomorrow. That will make four of you. But I had a phone call last night after you had bedded down. Yep, the Boss again. I told you she never sleeps. Anyway, it seems your plane is due for a service and overhaul and they want you back in San Jose before lunchtime. You're going home. So when you’re ready, pack your kit, get refueled and take off. Hey, thanks for the help, see you again soon.

Your evaluator is waiting by that Baron out there. Take him and the plane over to Reid Hillview. Once there, make five touch and goes. I’ll let you in on a secret. On the last one he is going to fail an engine, so be ready. After that go ahead and land. He’ll tell you what you have to do next. Good luck!

Takeoff from Reid Hillview and fly a heading of 74º for 8 miles. This is Turn Point 1.

From Turn Point 1 Fly a heading of 338º for 20 miles. This is Turn Point 2.

From Turn Point 2 intercept Oakland VOR inbound radial 080. Depart Oakland VOR radial 345.

Intercept Scaggs Island VOR inbound radial 120.

Depart Scaggs Island VOR radial 175 for 22 miles. This is Turn Point 3.

From Turn Point 3 intercept San Francisco VOR inbound radial 320.

Depart SFO VOR radial 120 for 9 miles. This is your destination.

Remember the headings are "true" and you will have to allow for the wind. Note the prominent landmark or airfield at each Turn Point and your final destination. Submit this information to your Supervisor. DO NOT POST IT ON THE FORUM!!! !

If you navigated correctly and got all the Turn Points correct and ended up at the correct airport, then you can deadhead back to San Jose to be promoted to Captain by the Boss and get issued your White Shirt. Congratulations!

If you messed up somehow, then deadhead back to Half Moon Bay and give it another shot.

Note: You only get paid for the mileage if you successfully complete the check ride. You log the hours for all your attempts, but gain cash only for correctly navigating the ride.

Here's the page where you can roll the die, if you don't have one yourself. Don't you play Yahtzee?
